Wasting Time

The most common question asked of me is how I had enough time to do all the things I’ve done. I’m getting some script ideas together for another attempt at a YouTube presence, and I figure I’ll answer that question. First, I’m not slothful (like we discussed in a previous Insight) but neither are lots of Type A personalities. Here’s the 3 big things I give up for time:
1) I do not follow daily news.
2) I do not work for anyone.
3) I do not join things.
4) But the biggest, the one everybody hates to hear: I do not watch sports.

I'd missed that one, even though church used to consume an inordinate amount of time in my youth. I wonder if I should include:

5) Checking your privelege and being aware that most if not all your success is a direct result of your skin color.

All success relies on luck. Skin color is simply an additional lottery ticket.

Maybe a little of it is luck. But I don't think it was luck that got you a fortune. You had drive to succeed. It seems to be part of your identity whereas most of us don't really care that much. You never lost it.

In any case, keeping the fortune is another matter. Lots of us don't build fortunes because we squander it, and if we inherited or won a fortune, we'd just squander that too.

Maybe a little of it is luck.

Luck is the MOST IMPORTANT factor. There are 10,000 people who could have done what Bill Gates did. There's a million people that could do any $1,000,000/year stockbroker job. There's literally 10s of millions of people that could be entertainers & politicians. The difference is luck.

Like I said, accomplishments aren't luck related, so they aren't considered success; anybody could do accomplishments, or so they think. Success is lucky.

I think you underestimate most of our abilities to squander resources. In my experience, people who built wealth from scratch are pretty good at not squandering time and money. They take for granted that it is easy, when it's in most of our natures to squander it.

Even people who squander time & money (the slothful) get lucky. They may have fewer lottery tickets than others but the odds are so long anyway that it hardly makes any difference.

LOTS N LOTS of people (millions upon millions) who don't squander time & money are NOT successful.

The amount of whitesplaining in your post is quite upsetting.
