Smithian solutions to Hobbesian problems
Smith elucidated that people making decisions in their own self-interest act like an invisible hand guiding society, and Smith's friend, Hobbes, concluded that citizens must contract with the sovereign to solve public problems. There are Smithian solutions to Smithian problems, and Hobbesian solutions to Hobbesian problems, but Smithian solutions to Hobbesian problems is an oxymoron.
