Liberty vs. Freedom

Post by Martin Hash » Sat Jun 11, 2016 10:56 am

It's confusing to mix up liberty with freedom, which many people do, especially people who don't understand American "liberty" because they come from socialist nations. Most of The West has freedom; only America has liberty.

Here's how The Left interprets liberty in America:
They make the "freedom" confusion, and say socialism creates more freedom for people. For example, Minimum Wage makes The Worker freer; not being held accountable makes people freer; having someone else be responsible for your well-being makes you freer, but that is NOT liberty. Liberty is you are responsible for your own decisions; the obligation is ON YOU.

Worker Rights are socialism because the obligation goes onto someone else, at their expense. Socialism is the needs of the group supersede the wants of the individual, so Minimum Wage may be good for the group (VERY, VERY DEBATEABLE but that's the claim they make), so the wants of their employers are overridden.

I've lived in socialist countries: OMG, service is terrible; stores are dirty & cluttered; employees are rude, BUT they are empowered.

p.s. I can't wait to get home from socialism because I want to be able to get a rude, incompetent nincompoop fired.
