Tho I was a barracks room lawyer, I did in the end respect the officer elite.

In the Royal Canadian Infantry Corps of yore, they did train them so hard, to such a high standard, that they were elite.

I did pass my Sergeant's course at a very young age, but the kids who passed the platoon commanders course at that age were better than me.

The NCO impulse is to look to the welfare of the platoon, narrow view, the officer is the guy who has to think about the big picture and sacrifice the platoon if that is what the mission requires

The kids in the Canadian Army who were dedicated enough to be platoon commanders, they were like the young stars in hockey.

They were franchise players, at eighteen years of age.

To be an NCO, you're like a role player, you're never going to be Wayne Gretzky.

Your job is to tuck in behind the Great One and make room for him to score the goals.

It's a noble profession mind you.

Serving as an NCO was a privilege. A dream come true.

I never wanted to be the platoon commander, that's an island, you're never one of the boys.
