4th of July in Yellowstone National Park

Post by Martin Hash » Tue Aug 01, 2023 5:10 am

We were in Yellowstone during 4th of July but you still have to do laundry. My wife, Gwynne, and I got up early and walked to the park services building to shower & wash clothes. While there, Gwynne overheard someone mention a parade so, of course, we left the dryer going and headed down the road where the ranger pointed to watch it. At first, Gwynne thought the small crowd of people were other observers, but it turned out that was the parade, and we were the only groupies!

There were 2 other Americans traveling with us. A couple days previous, Gwynne had bought supplies for a 4th of July BBQ for the whole truck: frozen ribeye steaks, sausages, chicken thighs, and a cooler & ice to keep them in. Gwynne also found decorations at Walmart: glow stick necklaces, red-white-blue garland & miniature U.S. flags, and the ingredients for Jello shots. The food was prepared over an open fire. We provided whiskey & beer for everyone so the party was a big hit; the women showed off their flexibility by playing limbo.
