I overheard a young girl tell her friend that the North Pole was near Fairbanks, Alaska. I was curious she would think that and mentioned it to my wife, Gwynne, who told me that’s where children send their letters to Santa. I’d never really considered it before even though I can remember writing letters to Santa as a youngin addressing them to the “North Pole.” As an adult I’m awed & amused by the audacity of the idea that a small town could simply adopt the name of a fictional place so I was pleased when we actually visited the place.
Santa’s Address
Entering North Pole, we were greeted by a giant Santa statue, and an adjacent Christmas-themed store containing a Santa’s workshop display, called "Antler Academy." It was full of gifts for the grandkids back home; couldn't pass that us even though we have to carry everything in our restricted luggage for awhile.
