Now that the definition of “anti-vaxx” has been expanded to include people against forced vaccination, I’m an anti-vaxxer, so when my son, Haven, while we visiting him Peru, told me there was an anti-vaxx rally going on in Lima’s main square, of course, I had to go.
My wife, Gwynne & I, as examples of resisting authoritarianism, weren’t wearing masks, but surprisingly the anti-vaxxers were?! Because of my male White privilege, nobody approached me, that or the fact I had my 4-year old grandson on my shoulders, but Gwynne had a phalanx of men telling her “mascara.” In fact, everyone at the rally, hundreds of people, were men: Gwynne ignored them. We listened to the guy on the megaphone for awhile: he seemed sincere enough, however, I think Gwynne & I made more of an impact because I saw a half-dozen people around us take their masks off after we’d been there awhile.
