Amazon Trek, Peru
In preparing to come to Amazon River, my third trip, I watched Disney’s “Jungle Cruise” on the plane to increase my already peaked sense of mystery & adventure. The Amazon is the longest river in the world, 4,345 miles, from the Peruvian Andes through Brazil to the Atlantic Ocean. My favorite person from the past, Teddy Roosevelt, lost his son and ultimately his life, searching for the source of the Amazon but all I had to do was fly into Iquitos, take a 3-wheel cab to Quebrada Zaragoza, a small town where the Maranon & Ucayali Rivers join to form the start of the Amazon, and from there a small boat downriver to our camp. It was an exciting New Year's for the whole family.
