Santa Marta, Columbia
At a one day stop in Santa Marta, Columbia, my wife, Gwynne, and I signed up to visit the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta Natural National Park. You never know what you're going to get on a “Nature Hike,” but the brochure said waterfall and that was enough to pique our interest, and apparently the interest a couple hundred other people, all bused in simultaneously from our cruise ship. We had brought swimsuits just in case, and contrary to our initial impression of the cattle call crowd, it turned out the place was a local swimming hole, with none of the tourists except ourselves getting in the water.
