Sleeping in a Tent is Romantic

Post by Martin Hash » Thu Feb 09, 2017 9:57 pm

My wife, Gwynne, has a magnet on the fridge at home that says, "No more camping!" So, of course, we decided to backpack across Australia via a tent. For all the hardship of camping: heat, cold, bugs & personal discomfort, it does have the upside of being cheap, convenient & romantic. It may be difficult to believe that sleeping on the side of the road while trucks & trains thunder by is romantic, but hey, works for us.

Sometimes we get extremely lucky and find the jackpot of romantic locations: a pond in the middle of the Australian Outback being a case in point. I mean, this place was spectacular: supplied by a cold spring that ran just under the surface of the bathtub hot water, giant 8-inch long praying mantises, picturesque sunset & sunrise, and relative lack of the ever-present mosquito swarms. Amazingly, we were alone there. I tried to get Gwynne to go skinny-dipping but Road Trains kept thundering by. However, she did get honked at in her bikini.

Have fun! But watch out for spiders, I hear the country's loaded with 'em.

If you end up in the Northern Territory, try a kayak/camping trip down the Katherine River. Highly recommended.

Hash has been out of the country the entire time we have been crashing at his place. That's how long, and then some, he's been on vacation.

Fucking wow.

Hey, that's where the pictures were taken. (No kayaking though, too bad, would have loved it.)

Hash is at level 99 and walking around Final Fantasy 15 right now. That's bad ass man. Enjoy it! To be honest, I enjoy these journal entries.
