Can I Have Ice Cream With That Grasshopper?
People don't want to hear about somebody else's Bucket List, I know, but I've been wanting to eat fried centipede for as long as I've known about them. My daughter brought me chocolate-covered mealworms home from Vietnam but they just didn't hit the spot. I was going to have to make my own visit to China if I wanted fried Grasshopper, and finally I did, and the reality lived up to the expectations. Especially when throwing in the grasshoppers, scorpions, a kilo of snails, savory fried whole squid, and with Dali beer to wash it all down with. First, deep-fried insects are crunchy good, though somewhat flavorless. Secondly, what do you have against larva, anyway, especially when they come in easy to eat handfuls? I must admit that immediately upon leaving the weird-things-to-eat foodcourt, I went around the corner into McDonald's for some familiar Western ice cream.
