Walk Behind Vehicle.JPG
While in Kyrgyzstan, after staying in yurts on a high plateau, the hairpin curve track down the mountainside was so treacherous that we had to walk behind the vehicle. Unfortunately, a large herd of horses was being guided by tribespeople down to winter pastures, and they got ahead of us so the whole 7K walk in the snow was complicated by a minefield of droppings.Yaks in the Road 2.JPG
Sheep in the Road (Kyrgyzstan).JPG
Once there was a small group of water buffalo galloping on the road in front of our vehicle at 20-25 K/hour for what must have been a mile. And the number of times sheep & goat herds blocking the road, stalling traffic into long lines of cars is numerous.Water Buffalo.jpg
Goat on the Sidewalk (Tibet).JPG
In small towns, livestock is often present but it is still surprising in cities with lots of traffic. None-the-less, in Labrang, China on the Tibetan plateau, long-haired goats & female yaks have free run of town, walking in front of cars, nibbling at pedestrians' groceries, and entering markets at their leisure. However, there were dozens of red-robed monks in the streets too, so maybe a few animals ain't that strange.Monks 2.JPG
