Jelly, Jello, Jellies & Jam

Americans who travel with citizens from the other colony nations of Great Britain need to add words to their vocabulary. For example, a sweater is a jumper, biscuits are cookies, and oatmeal is porridge. These simple word substitutions aren't difficult but the reinterpretations of jelly, Jello, jellies & jam can be truly confusing: jelly is Jello, jam is jelly, jellies are chewy candy, and Jello is an American brandname. And when the Brits starting putting cheese on their jam & toast, that can cause a gustatory challenge for an American. Then there's the controversy which is better: Vegemite or Marmite, both yeast-based spreads used like mayonnaise. The vast majority of Brits pick Marmite but the occasional Ozy will too, which can start a fight in close circles. Americans need to stay far away from such conflicts, the easiest way being simply to stay entirely away from both Vegemite & Marmite.
