Toilet Paper
The most common indicator that a nation has not yet entered the modern world is their toilet paper, namely, they don't flush it but instead throw the foul, disgusting stuff into the trash. The smell alone makes the entire bathroom unattractive & unusable, including the sink & shower. Even long drops have buckets next to them for depositing used paper. What makes it worse is when you find yourself pawing through the scraps & pieces looking for a clean bit to wipe yourself. The reason this obscene practice exists is because the rough, plastic-infused paper clogs the pipes, but the problem can be eliminated by simply changing the composition of the paper to what The West uses which dissolves in water.
