Canoeing is a skill...……….. and I don't think I know WTF I'm doing. It's fun, I do it, but I also realize there's tons of shit about it I don't know.
I'm old hat, been canoeing since I was in short pants

in the army I was on the military ironman team, that's rucksack run, canoe and portage.

Canoeing is easy, portage is the hard part.
I can handle a canoe on flat water, which isn't saying much. But that river shit is another level.
I can handle pretty much anything, but bush bashing with a canoe on your back is always brutal.

Everyone talks about if you could go back in history and see something.

On my list is watching early 19th C fur trappers with 20 ft birch bark canoes navigating rivers. In fact their entire lives. Those guys were the ultimate Rangers.

I've done it with a 16 foot birch, Gitigan style, the Indians still make them the old way.

My sons & I did 2 weeks on the Bowron Lakes, portaging a 150 lb fiberglass canoe. I still have that POS.
