I'm glad Boeing and SAAB get the contract for the new trainer. A big deal for Swedish industry. It's pretty as well.

What the shit kind of probe is that coming out of the nose?

It already has normal pitot probes on the front fuselage. TOT probes too.

How was the Jaguar rated StA?
Old as shit. The only 1960s era aircraft I sort of know is the F-111, but only because when I was in the F-15 and F-111 were the same job. All the F-15 guys had to test out on F-111 stuff.

Other than that.. I can't really tell you. I knew some old timers who came to us from the F-4 squadrons and picked up a little about those.

Just looking up the airframe online doesn't paint a pretty picture, though. A lot of mission creep, turning a trainer into something it really wasn't great at.

Also, anytime the vendor touts "fly by wire" my bullshit meter basically pegs to the far end and shorts out. "Fly by wire" is bullshit corporate-speak for "we ripped out the flight control rods and cables to save money so all you are getting is half the flight control system and little redundancy".

OK, fair enough if it was before your time. I was hoping you might have met some pilots who had flown one.
At least in the old days we designed and built our own planes. Now we just buy American or work with the EU to build new fighters.
For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

All the pilots I had any relationship were going to be young and just F-15 drivers.

Fucking extras are a pain in the arse.
Jumped up little shits acting like divas because they got a days work as a non speaking part in a crime reenaction.
Actual professional NPCs.

You might be a bit young to remember the Gulf War, but some of those F-15s were used to fight Saddam back in the early 90's. At that point you were probably just listening to Hanson and learning to tie your shoes though.

Just had an enquiry about a short job in the trenches.
About 40 miles away near Ipswich. Built by a keen historian on his farm and used by film and TV companies.
